TAMPA - Tampa Bay Lightning opened preseason play against Carolina with a 2-1 loss while icing a very young lineup.

Head coach Jon Cooper discussed how his young lineup performed while also answering the situation of the league's crackdown on slashing and faceoff violations in a game that featured 18 minor penalties called resulting in nearly 26 minutes of combined power play time.

TAMPA - As the Lightning reported to training camp following the longest off-season for the team since 2013, there is a sense of heightened hunger after missing the playoffs.

With a healthy Steven Stamkos, extended time for summer training and the influx of some new players on the roster, that hunger is very noticeable as shown in this video package.

Video: Lightning open rookie camp with the spotlight on Mikhail Sergachev

TAMPA- As Hurricane Irma bears down on the state of Florida, the Lightning opened rookie camp at Amalie Arena.

While the rookie camp initially scheduled to be held in Estero was cancelled due to the storm threat, Tampa Bay's rookie team will head to safety in Nashville where the Lightning will play three games against the Predators. When those games do get underway, recently acquired 19-year-old defenseman Mikhail Sergachev will have a spotlight on him as he looks to make the big team out of training camp. As the team reported on Thursday, Syracuse head coach Benoit Groulx discussed Sergachev and touched on a number of subjects surrounding the team while Sergachev talked about his goals heading in to this camp and dealing with his first hurricane.

BRANDON - Newly acquired Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev arrived at prospect camp Wednesday morning and received in first introduction to his new organization.

The ninth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by Montreal was acquired from the Canadiens in exchange for forward Jonathan Drouin. He met the Tampa media for the first time following his first day at prospect camp.

BRANDON - Tampa Bay Lightning first-round draft pick Callan Foote had his first taste of pro experience on Tuesday in the first day of Lightning prospect camp at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon.

After physicals and testing, the players hit the ice for some drills followed by power skating lessons. Foote met the media after his first day on the ice since being selected 14th overall at Friday's NHL Entry Draft.

TAMPA, Fla. - Tuesday's practice for the Lightning put a bit of an emphasis on keeping the puck in the offensive zone to create scoring chances.

While generating chances has not been a primary concern for Tampa Bay, finishing those chances is an area in need of improvement as the Lightning have scored just one goal in the past two games, something head coach Jon Cooper made sure the team was aware of during practice.

In this video package, though the need for goals is on their mind, the Lightning are trying not to think too much about scoring.

BRANDON, Fla. - The Lightning went through their final practice before departing for Friday's game Minnesota (8 p.m. EST, NBCSN, 970-AM) to start a two-game trip that concludes in Winnipeg on Saturday.

The session at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon on Thursday served as the final practice for Tampa Bay for more than a week as the team enters its bye week, a new wrinkle all teams will experience this year with a week between games. But before the players start thinking about relaxation time, there is still work to be done.

BRANDON, Fla. - As the Lightning went through practice drills on Thursday, a heated, but brief, exchange took place between teammates.

After a battle drill midway through the 60-minute, Brian Boyle went to give a playful jab to Andrej Sustr, but it escalated from there before the two teammates had to be separated. Both said afterwards, it was just a case of boys being boys.

TAMPA, Fla. - The Lightning enjoyed their largest margin of victory in a 5-0 victory against Los Angeles on Tuesday at Amalie Arena (Tampa Bay also won by five against the New York Islanders on Nov. 1).

Ben Bishop pitched the shutout, Jonathan Drouin had a goal and assist and Nikita Kucherov scored twice.

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay returned to the ice to prepare for Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators (7:30 p.m., Fox Sports Sun, 970-AM on Thursday.

For the 60-plus minute session at Amalie Arena, the coaching staff put the team through a series of situational drill, from power play, 3-on-3 play and even some sudden death shootout scenarios. The players were divided in to two groups, so there was a running score kept from the drills and winner declared by the end of practice.

What was originally set up to be a 30-minute appearance quickly turned in to the full hour, and that's because the conversation was so good, we just kept going touching on all kinds of topics from Ben Bishop and Jonathan Drouin to expansion and the Marty St. Louis jersey retirement ceremony held last week.

The NHL announced the lineups for the NHL All-Star game on Tuesday and Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman was selected to represent the Atlantic Division in the league's showcase event, which features a 3-on-3 tournament made up of players from each of the league's four divisions. The game will be held Jan. 29 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, with the skills competition scheduled for Jan. 28

Following practice, Hedman discussed being selected to his first All-Star game while joining teammate Nikita Kucherov on the team

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay Lightning center Tyler Johnson scored the game-winning goal to give the Lightning a come-from-behind overtime victory against the Montreal Canadiens.

Tampa Bay entered the third trailing by two goals, but rallied to tie the game with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes. Johnson scored his 11th of the season to win it 1:36 in to the extra period.
