Washington, D.C. -Road games for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season have been more coal in the stocking than candy cane.
But as the Lightning headed home from the final road game of the calendar year, their stockings were filled with two big points.
For just the third time this season, Tampa Bay held a road opponent to under three goals. And for the first time this season, a game involving the the Lightning was decided via the shootout.
It all added up to a third consecutive win for Tampa Bay heading into the three-day Christmas break.
