TAMPA - The up-and-down days of open ice overtime rarely materialize in the National Hockey League any more.
Not after coaches heads were sent spinning, even as roars erupted from the crowd that left fans breathless at times, and everything was reigned in to make overtime more of a controlled, puck possession game where teams often exit the offensive zone back to center ice to regroup for a second or third entry into the zone.
But every once in a while, the barn door opens and a mad scramble ensues and it turns into a controlled chaos.
