TAMPA – Though the Tampa Bay Lightning season ended unceremoniously four games into the postseason, a handful of players extended their season while participating in the IIHF World Championships in Slovakia.
The tournament, taking place in Bratislava and Kostice, runs through May 26, features 16 teams in groups of eight taking part in a round-robin format. The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.
The Lightning have a total of eight players participating, representing four countries.
