TAMPA - As the dawn of a new season approaches, the Tampa Bay Lightning landed in an unexpected controversy regarding veteran defenseman Ian Cole.
After allegations of sexual assault on a minor surfaced on Sunday, the team suspended the 33-year-old defenseman pending an investigation. The accusations were made public on an anonymous Twitter account.
Cole will not be joining the team when the Lightning depart for New York to open the season at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals. Cole is suspended with pay.
