TAMPA – New Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois had no intention of seeing sparkplug forward Yanni Gourde slip away from the organization.
So months away from seeing that potentially happen, the Lightning locked up Gourde to a six-year contract extension that carries an annual average value of $5.166 million and keeps him under contract through the 2024-25 season.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of a two-year deal worth $1 million per season that he signed prior to the 2017-18 season. He was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
