Tampa Bay Lightning entering season-defining, ten-game stretch, perhaps without the Captain

SUNRISE – For six weeks Gemel Smith practiced with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
And he practiced.
And he practiced.
And he practiced.
Smith didn't make the roster to start the team, but he remained with the team as part of the expanded taxi squad instituted for this season.
It's all the work without the promise of play.
Which makes what Smith accomplished when he actually did play in his first game in almost a year on Saturday all the more impressive.

Because of the COVID protocols in place this season and the possibility it could leave teams shorthanded, the NHL and NHLPA agreed that each team...
