TAMPA - Fourteen years ago, before the 2008 draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning created a marketing marvel.
In the weeks leading up to the draft after Tampa Bay won the draft lottery and retained the first overall pick, billboards popped up around town, bumper stickers were plastered on the rear end of cars and trucks throughout Tampa and stickers were placed everywhere around town on lamp posts, street signs and gas stations.
The reach was global, with stickers even spotted at fueling stations near Sarnia, Ontario.
The campaign had everyone asking, Seen Stamkos?
